There is no question that dremeling a dogs nails is safer, more comfortable and easier to use. I cut my dog's quick once and I felt just terrible. Have said that, this particular product falls apart. It literally fell apart in my hand. It eats batteries and it doesn't keep a consistant speed. I have stepped up to a cordless rotary tool with a battery charger. There is a really good article on dremeling a dogs nails [...] Read it before you buy a dremel and use it. I find this product just as it says. What a waste of money. My cats won't sit still for it - the high-pitched whiny noise of the motor made them freak out - AND you can't use it for any other purpose because you can't put it back together after you change the batteries. Customer Review: Pet Nail Grinder

This is a replacement for the same model, which I had for 5 years with no problems. I put the Batteries in backward and burned out the HI Speed function. It is marked, but still easy to do. I took florescent model paint & HI Lighted the +/- (White out works too). Learn from my mistake. I gave it 4 stars due to the mess it makes & short Battery life/ no Lithium Battery option.
I have a 50 lb std Poodle & a 176 lb South African Boerboel (Mastiff family). It took about a week to get them used to the sound using a clicker and lots of Hi Value treats.
This grinder has the power to do the job. The speeds are well matched to pet nail grinding. I use it outside due to the mess it makes. A set of batteries will last thru both my dogs. As I never call my dogs to me if I have to do something they do not like, I go to them (By only calling my dogs for things they enjoy I have a solid recall) Cordless is the only way to go. FYI I also own a corded variable speed Dremel and a Rotozip.
I have recommended this to several friends & relatives. Everyone has been happy with it.

This is the best purchase I have ever made...anyone who has pets knows how hard it is to trim their nails. My dogs, like many others tend to move around a lot and would occassionally move and get cut on the quick. This product is easy to use and takes away the possibility of cutting your pets quick which causes bleeding. Every pet owner should invest in one.
